Wendy Vella is a bestselling historical fiction and romance author from Auckland New Zealand that also writes novels under the pseudonym, Lani Blake.

She is a lover of all things romantic and at a very young age, she began reading romances from the likes of Georgette Heyer. It was from such reading that she would fall in love with the Regency era.

After starting a family, she joined the Romance Writers of New Zealand and then started attending conferences and competitions to hone her skills.

She published “The Reluctant Countess,” her debut novel in 2013, and has never looked back since. She now has more than forty works to her name spread across several series, single-standing titles, novellas, and collections of short stories.
Wendy has said that she is addicted to reading and reads all manner of genres, even though historical fiction will always be a favorite. She also loves romances with delicious heroes and feisty heroines especially set in the Regency era.
Given that he is a sucker for happy endings, she has been married for almost three decades to her dark brooding hero.

She currently makes her home in Auckland New Zealand, where she gets to enjoy the rolling hills and sandy beaches that make her proud to be a Kiwi.

Vella got started writing when she was about eighteen years old, given that she always enjoyed creative writing ever since she was in school.

During this time, she used to read a lot and after reading Georgette Heyer, she thought she should have a go at writing a romance. Of course, the product was terrible and will likely never see the light of day.

While many of Wendy Vella’s friends told her she was a writer the moment she published her first novel, she did not think so herself. It was only when she quit work to become a full-time author that she first started considering herself a writer.

She was inspired to pen her debut work with a story that had been inside her for many years that needed to be told. As a total romantic, writing about happy endings was always going to be a fun activity.

Wendy has now become known for writing contemporary and historical fiction with much intrigue and a thread of humor.

As for what books have had the biggest influence on her fiction writing career, Wendy Vela has said that it has to be “These Old Shades” by Georgette Heyer.

It was the first historical romance she ever read and even now, she finds herself going back to it from time to time. Other books that she has been influenced by include “The Cynster” Series by Julia Quin and the works of Lisa Kleypas and Eloisa James.

All told, Lisas Kleypas is her favorite author, particularly since she also writes historical and contemporary romance. She has said that she likes how unique her characters are and the humor that often runs through her novels.
Away from writing, Wendy is a member of a road cycling club and sometimes sings in a band. When she is at home she loves to watch TV shows such as “Heroes” and “Blacklist.”

Wendy Vela’s novel “Sensing Danger” is a beautiful regency romance about destiny, love, and legend with a hint of magic.

According to legend, the Sinclairs developed heightened senses due to the pact they entered into with the powerful Raven family hundreds of years ago. Their creed is to protect and honor, but their task is made difficult by the current Duke of Raven.

The Duke of Raven is a man known as James known for his aloof and arrogant nature. He is determined to go his own way and abandon the many folk tales he believes his ancestors made up.

But then he is saved by Eden Sinclair, a woman who risks her life to save him. Their past soon comes to the fore and with it, they realize that they could have stronger links than history.

Eden needs to see the man behind the haughty and cool facade and use her paranormal powers to ensure his safety. He had initially been very suspicious of her motives but this soon becomes something even more dangerous.
Eden soon finds herself torn between self-protection and duty and does not know if she will have enough strength to battle against destiny.

“Seeing Danger” by Wendy Vella introduces Lord Devonshire Sinclair, whose family had many years in the past entered into a pact with the powerful Raven family.

The pact had resulted in heightened senses that make the Sinclairs some of the most powerful families in the land. For the longest time, he had accepted the reality that it was impossible for any woman to live with him given his strange powers.
On the other hand is Lilliana Braithwaite, who was known as a woman with very little sense who dressed poorly.

For about two years, he had ignored her presence until he found her trying to resume a child on the streets of London and putting her own life in peril.

He is impressed by her valor and believes she could just be the one to tame his heart even though she does not seem too convinced.

It is only a few months before she can receive her inheritance and she is holding her cards close to her chest. It is not so easy since Lord Sinclair seems intent on doing anything to poke his nose into her affairs.

Wendy Vella’s novel “Touched by Danger” introduces Essex Sinclair of the powerful Sinclair family. Despite bearing the legendary name, she has always felt unworthy.

Unlucky in love, she has decided that she will live a solitary and quiet life as a healer and leave passion to the young and foolish.

When a strange man falls onto her lawn profusely bleeding from a bullet wound, all she wants is to heal him as fast as she can and have him leave. But the moment she touches Max Huntington, destiny takes over and promises dangerous consequences.
Someone is after Max’s life and only his actions had saved him. Sinclair is a determined and sweet woman who makes him desire things he believed he would never feel again.

He had purposefully made her believe he was just another ordinary man on the street but even though his caress had made her yield, he knows that for her own good he needs to lie and leave.

But things get interesting when she arrives in London and learns the true identity of Max.
