This has lead to her becoming one of the main authorities on the field, with her books selling worldwide to an ever increasing audience of readers.

Early and Personal Life

Born and raised in America, the writer to be Vanessa Kelly would come to love literature from an early age. This is something that she’d continue to work on throughout her upbringing, as she would put all of her experiences growing up back into her work. Over time her voice as a writer developed, allowing her to become a lot more articulate clarifying herself as an author and novelist of fiction.

Reading Jane Austen in high-school she had a clear idea of what she wanted to do from quite an early period. Studying the works of both 18th and 19th century British writers during her time in graduate school, she would come to learn a lot on the subject. This would then give her the academic background and tools that she required in taking her and her writing career forwards.

Following her graduation from university, she then went on to work as a researcher within the public sector. Whilst she enjoyed this her love and passion for Regency lead stories still captivated her like nothing else would. Taking her experiences and her insight gained, she then went on to publish her first novel creating what would be an exemplary writing career.

Currently still writing on a regular basis, she continues to maintain a strong presence both online and off. Living in Ottawa, Ontario in Canada, she resides with her husband, whilst spending the winter months down in Florida. Planning a lot more novels on the horizon, she isn’t stopping any time soon either, as she looks set to continue on into the foreseeable future.

Writing Career

It was in 2009 that Vanessa Kelly would write her first book, as she made her initial debut to much acclaim. Releasing ‘Mastering the Marquess’ she would arrive on the literary scene with the first in the long-running series of ‘The Stanton Family’ novels. This would then lead to her quickly becoming a household name, as it would cement her reputation as a serious writer for many years to come.

Creating a number of series, she has become well known for her grand franchises that are both epic and sprawling in their nature. With ‘The Renegade Royals’, which is a Regency set series about illegitimate heirs, ‘The Stanton Family’, which is a very loose spin-off, and ‘The Improper Princesses’, which is also a spin-off of the first, she has a lot of titles to date. Whilst these are all interconnected in some manner, however loose that connection may be, she is a very consistent in both her themes and ideas.

Also known for writing under the pen-name of V.K. Sykes, she writes alongside her author husband as well. This collaborative effort allows the both of them to explore new avenues within their writing, whilst developing it more in the process too. Producing romantic suspense novels under that name, they both manage to create exciting and highly enthralling stories and characters.

Well known for maintaining a good relationship with her many fans and readers, she has a strong presence as a writer. This allows her to build this into her writing, as she takes feedback in and processes it all into her work. With both her real profile and her pseudonym she has built a strong and reputable brand for herself as a full-time author.
