The “Untouchable” series is a set of romantic suspense novels by bestselling paranormal romance and romantic suspense author Heather Long. She loves to describe herself as a student of life, pet owner and mother. In college, she was a student of business, psychology and journalism and has degrees in all three fields. Long writes since she cannot imagine living without writing. Her novels are usually people with heroes and heroines who find themselves in a hot tangle of romance. She has been known to write everything from contemporary military romances to westerns and switches genres often. When she is not writing her novels, she can be found spending time with friends and family or wrangling her huge menageries of pets. Heather believes that most people who love realistic heroes and likable heroines have been friends with people that are just like that. These are the type of character she tries to write about in her novels.
Heather Long is best known for her “Wolves of Willow Bend Paranormal” series of novels. She made her writing debut with “Marshal of Hel Dorado,” the first of the “Fevered Hearts” series of novels that she first published in 2011. Since then, she has gone on to become a prolific author with more than 100 titles over more than a dozen series. She has said that she was inspired to become a storyteller by her grandmother who was always reading to her something or other. Her biggest influence though has been the Harlequin romance novels though she also reads fantasy and science fiction novels. “Rules and Roses,” the debut novel of the “Untouchable” series was first published in 2019.
The “Untouchable” series of novels by Heather Long is the story of Frankie and her four best friends Jake, Bubba, Cooper and Archie who are about to start their senior year in high school. They are supposed to be having the best time of their lives but suddenly Frankie learns that she had been deemed untouchable. Over the summer, she distances herself from everyone but now that they are starting senior year things seem to be changing. In the second novel of the series, Frankie goes from having no friends or boyfriend to four and the transition is hard. She has to juggle going from friends to loves while taking on a full load of course work. Trying to give everyone the attention they need soon begins to get to her. The third novel of the series picks up from where the second left off. Frankie is still in a relationship with her best friends but Ian has started acting weird. Meanwhile, homecoming is looming, the high school girls are being mean while her mother is a worthless biscuit.
In “Rules and Roses,” the first novel of the “Untouchable” series, Frankie is a senior who knows that her class rank would earn her just an entry in the yearbook. She does not usually give a damn about her appearance and does not do her hair or wear cosmetics. She thinks she does not need to be cool as she has so far managed to navigate high school just fine. She can get along with the band geeks, the nerds, the theatre kids and the jocks with no problem. She is now starting senior year and wants to focus on her AP classes to get her grades up. It should not be hard particularly since she has been declared untouchable. Apparently, most of the guys in her school deemed her the best for hanging out for homework or fun but nothing else. It’s a little hard to swallow even though she was not particularly looking for a date. She had been ranked best tutor but knew she could not make the Girl Most Likely to Get a Date. She brushes it all off as she just has one year before she off to college, after all she needs to study to get the grades she needed to get into a good college. After all, she had never cared about status and rules before, why would she start now.
In “Changes and Chocolates,” the third novel of the series, Frankie has just 170 days before she is done with senior year of high school. But now everything changed as she is no longer a pariah. She has gone from untouchable to dating the best guys in school and then finds out that she was betrayed. She cannot understand why the people she cares about so much would do that to her. Frankie thinks things could not get worse even though nearly all of them have broken rules and crossed lines. Ian has asked her to be his date at the Homecoming Ball, Jake has slept with her and she had made out with Coop on the sofa. Archie and Frankie had blown past all of them but she feels she needs to get out high school with urgency. College was a few months away and she needed to focus on that and not the four boyfriends she was juggling. Losing them for several months was going to hurt but she knows she would eventually have to bear the pain of losing them forever.
“Keys and Kisses” the third novel of the series opens to Frankie working on one goal to get her grades up by making her AP classes count. But her grades and focus are wobbling as the perks of dating her friends such as invitations to dances, kisses and hugs take their toll. She also has to deal with vandalism of her car, hate mail and vindictive posts. He college essays are also not up to scratch and she is racing towards inevitable collision with her mother. Her dance partner tells her that he values their friendship more and that he just might have to walk away to preserve it. Meanwhile, her best friend demands no more secrets while her first boyfriend wants to move in with her. But what had brought them together could just tear them apart and she dreads losing any of her friends. It is change she may not survive but the crux of the matter is what does she really want and is she willing to fight to get and keep it.
