Liz Isaacson is an American author whose real name is Elana Johnson and focuses more on inspirational romance movies. She has published a number of books, most of them making it to the best selling list. Other than writing, her main hobbies are travelling and watching the sunset. Her love for cowboys, horses, ranches and the mountainside was the inspiration behind some of her books, the rivers ranch series. Being a teacher together with her passion made it easy for her to transition into writing amazing novels. As much as she loves to exceed her readers’ expectations by writing great books, having her teaching profession and being a mother and a wife presents a challenge and makes it hard for her to find time to write. Still, she finds a balance between everything and juggles all of it together. Her love for writing makes it possible for her to write anywhere anytime whether she’s sitting by the pool or lying on a couch.
She is the sole author of her books and finds her inspiration on reality television, which she considers crazier than fiction. Although her stories are fictitious, she tailors her characters in a way that makes them relatable to most people, since most people have some pain and mistakes from the past they find hard to heal. The personal struggles that people go through to find healing and figure out God’s purpose for their lives are the core factors in these stories. She finds the perfect balance between Christianity and romance by infusing patience, forgiveness, faith, love and acceptance in her books. She is working on another book, the sixth book of the series featuring some characters from the first book. It promises to be as thrilling and entertaining as the previous ones.
The books are based on main characters who served together in the Middle East and are therefore war heroes. Two of them get injuries prompting their coming back home where they find it hard to fit in and accept their new situation. They struggle with their injuries and psychological as well as emotional pressures that come with them. In the first book, the character comes back to three rivers ranch, his home, where he meets his long lost love who hurt him while still in high school. He has to find healing for the old emotional pain as well as coming to terms with his injuries so he can move on. The second book features another character that endured worse injuries and takes longer before coming back to work at the ranch. He only shows up when the first character is ready to go back to college leaving his sister who is also struggling with her pain to be in charge. Although the third character was not injured in war, he also comes back to the ranch to take a break from his business. While there, his ex-wife shows up with a child who she claims to be his. All the books focus on personal struggles and weaknesses, together with how to overcome hurt and embrace forgiveness while trying to find and follow God’s will. The setting for the books is a fictional beautiful small town where people live simple lives and the characters either live or work at three rivers ranch. The ranch presents the connection between the books although one can also read them as standalone novels.
The first book of the series, Second chance ranch is based on two people who had an unpleasant encounter in high school when the girl turned down the boy’s prom date proposal. The man, Squire, comes back home after being discharged from military service due to injury and tries to run the family’s business, three rivers ranch, so his parents can retire. Things get a bit complicated for him when he realizes a huge amount of money is missing from the ranch. He hires the girl who broke his heart, is now an accountant, and is back in town to find out what’s going on. The girl is also going through a rough patch while trying to fix her life and raise her son. Both these characters have endured so much pain and have to find a common ground to work together. Squire particularly finds it hard to forget how she rejected him yet still wants them to have a second chance. With all the complications and personal feelings, it takes tremendous amount of patience to make the second chance possible.
The second book of the series, Third Time’s the charm is also based in the same setting, where another ex military lieutenant, Pete, comes to seek refuge. The ex soldier has physical and emotional scars from the war and is finding it hard to fit in and lead a meaningful life. While at the ranch, he decides to set up a therapy program for other veterans like him and in the process identifies a beautiful woman who is the ranch owner’s daughter and his friend’s sister. She is also home nursing emotional wounds after enduring another engagement breakup. Both are afraid of love with the man being conscious of his visible scars and the woman fearing another heartache. They however work together on the program and discover that they both know how to heal the other’s wounds. The woman becomes a source of encouragement to the man and admires his wounds while the man proves to the woman that she can still find true love. Things aren’t that simple since Pete has a lot of dept he has to deal with and Chelsea, the woman, doesn’t want to fall in love. Even with love, faith and acceptance, there are still too many unknowns that they have to overcome in order to get a chance at being happy together.
Even though none of the books from the series has been made into a movie, they would definitely make great movies. They have had several entries into the blogging sphere and have received great reviews. This together with their exquisite flow and amazing ratings are some of the factors that have contributed to their popularity and best selling status.
