The MacLerie series is a famous series of historical romance books. It is written by a USA Today bestselling novelist named Terri Brisbin. The series is comprised of a total of 8 novels and 3 novellas, which were released between the years 2006 and 2014. The books in this series follow the romances of different MacLerie Clan members. Author Brisbin has done the setting of the plots’ stories in the medieval Scotland. In certain places of its publishing, the series is also known by the name The MacLerie Clan series. Author Brisbin started writing the series in the year 2006, and also published its debut novel called Taming the Highlander in the same year. Currently, the series is believed to be still going on as author Brisbin is working on completing a few more books in this series. She is expected to release a book or two in the days to come. The events and timeline depicted in the novel series are connected to two other book series penned by author Brisbin, the MacKinloch series and the Scottish Medieval series. Therefore, it can be clearly said that all the three series are linked together and common characters from all of them keep recurring in the plots every now and then. Author Brisbin has described the series’ events to have taken place from the 14th century up to the 16th century in the Scottish Highlands. Each of the books follows the life story of a member of the MacLerie family and depicts the ups and downs in their life. The stories generally show the difficulties and obstacles that MacLeries overcome to make their lovers their own forever. Various twists and turns keep taking place in the storylines that continue to make the plots much more interesting with each turning of the page. The debut book of the MacLerie series written by author Terri Brisbin is entitled ‘Taming the Highlander’. It was released by the Harlequin publication in the year 206. The book features the chief characters in the roles of Connor MacLerie and Jocelyn MacCallum, and takes place in the Scottish Highlands in 1355. At the start of the book’s story, it is shown that Connor MacLerie is known for being cruel in all of the Highlands and is notorious as the Beast. He possesses an unforgiving nature and does leave the people alive, who dare to come in his way. He has now become the laird of powerful clan of MacLeries and feels the need to have a wife. He was married once before to a beautiful woman, but she died, leaving Connor MacLerie alone, depressed, and thirsty for passionate and sensual love. When his family begins to search for a new bride for him, he puts forward the condition that the woman agreeing to marry him should be less beautiful than the one he had married for the first time. Connor only wishes to indulge in a physical relationship, by which his heart will not be broken for the second time. Later, he comes across Jocelyn MacCallum and brings her to his clan. Connor plans to keep Jocelyn for satisfying his sensual needs and not let her enter his life or his heart. Jocelyn MacCallum appears to be a brave woman. She saves her people and her family by agreeing to wed Connor, but fears that she will lose her life and her soul forever to the big Beast. Despite being warned by Connor, Jocelyn starts making a place for herself in the clan and also starts learning more things about Connor. Shortly after, a deadly threat rises that puts the whole clan in danger, including Jocelyn. Now, Jocelyn wonders whether she has tamed Connor’s heart enough for him to come and save her or not? Her life hangs in the balance as she waits for Connor to rescue her from the deadly danger.
The second installment penned in this romance series is called ‘Surrender to the Highlander’. This book was also published by Harlequin in 2008. This novel consists of the primary characters as Rurik Erengislsson and Margriet Gunnarsdottir. Once again, the storyline is set in the Highlands of Scotland in 1536. At the beginning of the story of the book, it is depicted that Margriet Gunnarsdottir is torn between her desire and honor. This innocent lady carries the burden of a long kept secret. During her journey to the distant and wild Scottish north, Margriet many dangers. But, she was able to keep herself safe because of her disguise as a nun. However, Margriet could no longer hold the secret and was forced to give away the secret to her new protector, a rough-hewn and proud Highlander named Rurik Erengislsson. Rurik has made a promise that he will not let any harm come to her and will protect her until she reaches her home. He is of opinion that a woman who has given up her life in God’s service must be honored and shielded at any cost. Rurik even knows that he cannot allow his heart’s desire to romance with Margriet. But, he is unable to stop himself from doing so when his heart begins to feel tempted too much for her love. And when Margriet learns about this situation, she too feels falling for Rurik’s love and eventually decides to surrender to him completely.
