Taylor Clan Series
One Good Man is the first book in the Taylor Clan book series. In one Good Man, Taylor Clan introduces the readers to Mitch Taylor. Mitch Taylor is Kansas City’s Police Chief and also the nephew to one Sid Taylor. After a junkie had killed both of his parents, Mitch Taylor was brought up alongside his cousins. For more than seven years, one Casey Maynard has been locked in Uncle Jimmy’s house. For several years, Casey has been a prisoner in her uncle house. She is exceedingly scared to get out of the house after a stalker decided to take out his anger on her. Casey does not seem to like any person who works for the force or is associated anyway with the force. However, when Mitch Taylor eventually shows up, things become much different from the word go.
Mitch Taylor had never hoped to be posted as the bodyguard to the niece of the police commissioner, so as to prove that he deserves a promotion. Mitch has always wanted a promotion, however, he knew his chances of getting one was slim due to political reasons. Casey and Mitch are hesitant about spending time together, but the police commissioner does not want to hear any of it. Casey did not see what the police chief saw in her. Mitch pushed Casey to do better, and in Casey, Mitch saw a woman who was yet to find herself. He saw courage in Casey, and when it eventually counted, the knowledge finally gave her the strength to act. Despite the fact that she felt like giving up most of the time, Casey kept on fighting. As time went by Mitch, saved Casey and Casey ended up saving Mitch as well.
While working as her bodyguard, Mitch did several things for her and also ensured that she was safe from Emmet. He eventually brought her parents back home. With that said, One Good Man is a fast-paced romantic suspense. Sudden Engagement is the second book in the Taylor Clan book series. In this book, we meet once more with Brett Taylor and Ginny Rafferty. Ginny Rafferty is a police detective, and unlike a majority of the romantic suspense stories, where the female cop is usually a kick-butt, Ginny Rafferty struggles in her position. Ginny’s short stature makes it exceedingly difficult for anyone to take her seriously and because of this, Ginny has eventually developed a chip on her shoulder. The chip on Ginny’s shoulder eventually makes it exceedingly hard for Brett to get close to her.
Brett, on the other hand, is a typical alpha male of romantic thrillers, which is more than willing to save the damsel in distress. It becomes clear eventually that Brett’s traits comes from his upbringing and not his need to feel superior. Brett’s old fashioned ideas are exceedingly frustrating many at times. However, there are times when they are also somewhat amusing especially the scene where he tried shielding Ginny from looking at a dead body. Ginny is not only a cop but a police detective as well, thus from the look of things she has ever seen a dead body before. Unlike his siblings and cousins, Brett is not in law enforcement. Instead, Brett owns a construction company that works to restore old buildings. Brett’s company has restored several buildings in the area where the Ludlow Arms is located. Now, Brett wants to renovate the Ludlow Arms.
When Brett was young, his best friend had lived and died in the Ludlow Arms building. Due to the fact that the state of deterioration of the building was too much, Brett is forced to bring down the building. However, just when he was about to bring the building down, a body is found in the basement of the building. Ever since Brett’s friend’s abusive father had disappeared, around the same time that his best friend’s body was found, it is immediately assumed that the body belongs to the missing man. The author, Julie Miller, introduces the readers to Ginny. Impelled by her sister’s death several years ago, Ginny is more than determined to find out the connection between her sister’s death and the dead body that was found in the basement of the building. The Rookie is the third book in the Taylor Clan book series. In this book, Taylor Miller introduces the readers to Josh. The book begins as Josh has just turned 20 years. Josh is not only full of himself but exceedingly cocky as well.
However, as the book progresses, we get to see, Josh mature. Coming from a family that consists of firefighters and police officers, Josh believes that he constantly has to prove himself. However, from the look of things, Josh has already proven himself. All that Josh needs to learn is that he is not alone in the deal. Apart from Josh, we are also introduced to Rachel, who due to life circumstances and challenges is forced to live alone. Her ex-husband had decided to focus on other women instead of focusing on the wife that he has at home. Furthermore, Rachel does not have any family that she can lean on. Now, Rachel is pregnant with a baby that belonged to a sperm donor who is more than determined to have the baby.
Despite the fact that Rachel has nowhere to go, Josh feels deep down it is his duty to protect her. Mac, Josh’s brother whom we were introduced in the third book, makes an appearance in the Rookie as well. With that said, The Rookie is a well-written suspense novel by Julie Miller.
