Stephen Dando-Collins was born in Australia and is a novelist and historian. He aims to travel roads that others haven’t, unearthing some new facts and opening up some new perspectives on certain overlooked or forgotten aspects of history.

Stephen worked in Britain and Australia as a copywriter, senior advertising agency executive, and as a graphic designer. He was an independent marketing consultant for a number of years, running the Australian operations of an American market research company before he moved to Noosa Heads, and then on to the Tamar Valley in Tasmania, where he was born, and now writes full time.

Stephen’s debut novel, called “Finklestein’s Miracle”, was released in the year 1989. He writes scientific nonfiction, children’s novels, and biographies, with much of his work dealing with military history ranging from Roman, Greek, and Persian times to American nineteenth century history and World Wars I and II. He is considered an authority on the legions of ancient Rome, as well.

Many of his books have been translated into foreign languages like Korean, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Albanian, Portuguese, and Russian.

“Caesar the War Dog” is the first novel in the “Caesar the War Dog” series and was released in the year 2012. This is a hero with a wagging tail and four paws! At the kennels, Caesar, a chocolate Labrador, doesn’t look too special. However Corporal Ben Fulton sees something much different: an intelligent dog whose curiosity is going to make him an outstanding sniffer dog in the Australian Army.

Caesar, on operations in Afghanistan with Ben, proves his worth, finding some hidden explosives and saving the soldiers’ lives. Then, on a Taliban ambush, Caesar ends up separated from his master. Ben and Charlie, his best mate, get seriously wounded and are evacuated to a hospital.

However where did Caesar go? From their home back in Australia, Ben and his family look for clues which might reveal whether their beloved pooch is still alive and surviving the bitter winter cold in Afghanistan and capture the Taliban. It’s going to be a long road back home, and Caesar’s going to face a number of hardships along the way, but for this loyal and courageous dog, anything is actually possible.

Readers found this to be an enjoyable and fantastic read.

“Operation Blue Dragon” is the second novel in the “Caesar the War Dog” series and was released in the year 2013. Our canine hero has returned to active duty and has returned to Afghanistan for his most daring mission to date.

When Charlie, an injured war hero, finally returns to SAS service and no longer requires Caesar’s assistance as a care dog. Caesar can return to what he does the best, as a super-sniffing explosive detecting dog in the Australian Army.

Caesar and Ben, his handler, are on their first mission back together. They find a bomb at the Sydney Opera House, targeted at the visiting Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Just a little later, while they’re on a peace mission in Afghanistan, the Secretary-General’s helicopter goes down and he ends up captured by the Taliban. Charlie, Caesar, and Ben join up with an international team to rescue him. Are they going to succeed? One experimental mini-submarine could help. As well as Caesar’s famous nose is certain to sniff out trouble along the way.

“Operation Pink Elephant” is the third novel in the “Caesar the War Dog” series and was released in the year 2014. This dog never forgets one of his friends. When their friend named Lucky gets kidnapped by some elephant poachers in Tanzania, the Global Rapid Reaction Responders team gets called to find him. Caesar, the super-sniffing war dog gets sent with Charlie and Ben on this mission.

After the death-defying parachute jump right into the ocean, they begin to gather clues. The poachers were previously seen stealing some of the village kids to become soldiers for their army. And they’ve forced Lucky to write a ransom note. If the team is able to trace this note, and work out which way the rebels went, they could be on the right track.

Saving Lucky from the heavily armed poachers is their top priority, however the GRRR team is ready to do whatever they must to stop the cruel trade in elephant tusks and to free the child soldiers. Could Caesar’s nose find the illegal cargo, as well as trace and rescue a good friend, before time runs out? There is a battle out on the African plain that is about to erupt.

“Operation Green Parrot” is the fourth novel in the “Caesar the War Dog” series and was released in the year 2015. Caesar is in Texas with Ben to train the local cops. When a bomb is detonated nearby and Caesar finds a second bomb at the scene, he attracts the wrong sort of attention.

Carlos Marron, a Mexican crime lord that is known as the Green Parrot, decides that the world famous Labrador is able to protect him from the sort of bomb attack which targeted his brother. Carlos orders his subordinates to go and dognap Caesar. And when Ben leaves Caesar in quarantine, the gang swoops in.

Now, Ben, Charlie, and the GRRR team must locate and rescue Caesar down in Mexico, during the middle of a lethal crime cartel war.

“Tank Boys” is a stand alone novel that was released in the year 2014. Frankie and Taz didn’t think about dying or killing when they lied about how old they were to join the Australian army. They believed the war would be a big adventure. Now they’re marching up to the front.

Richard is another sixteen year old kid marching off to war. He is inside the huge German tank Mephisto while it powers on toward the battle lines at Villers-Bretonneux, France. The other side have got their tanks ready as well. What happens when they end up meeting on the battlefield as enemies?

This follows Richard, Frankie, and Taz’ steps while they take part in what’s going to become one of the decisive battles in the war.
