Order of Simon Templar Books
Simon Templar, also known as The Saint, is the protagonist in a series of crime fiction/adventure novels and stories by British novelist Leslie Charteris, and later by other authors. Templar is a thief and an amateur detective with a boyish charm and morals similar to that of Robin Hood. His targets consist of corrupt politicians, warmongers and general lowlives. He is not adverse to killing if necessary in order to save lives. Templar’s origins are largely unknown, beyond the fact that he is British and has spent some time Stateside. The character has been portrayed on film and television by such actors as Louis Hayward, George Sanders, Hugh Sinclair, Roger Moore, Ian Ogilvy, Andrew Clarke and Val Kilmer in numerous adaptations.
Leslie Charteris debuted his Simon Templar character in 1928 with the novel Meet the Tiger. Charteris wrote all of the novels and stories in the series until 1964 when they began being ghostwritten (although usually credited to Charteris, who acted as an editor). As of this writing, there are 19 novels, 48 novellas and 95 short stories in the series. Currently, the final Simon Templar novel was Capture the Saint, which was published in 1997. Below is a list of Leslie Charteris’ Simon Templar books in order of when they were originally published (which is the same as their chronological order):
