Some of the books written by Sheila Roberts include Bikini Season and Angel Lane. The setting in both novels is Heart Lake, a small tightly knit lakeside community.
Bikini Season
This is the second novel written by Sheila Roberts. The novel centers on the character Erin Merritt. Erin returns to Heart Lake, her scenic hometown. She is intent on making arrangements and plans for her impending wedding. However, she seems to keep bumping into her childhood crush. Erin feels, at the same time that she is getting married to the wrong man. To add insult to injury, the stress and strain that she is experiencing drive her to increase the amount o food that she consumes. Erin ends up putting on so much weight that she cannot even fit into her wedding dress.
The Teeny Bikini Club is born when she enlists the help of her close friends Megan, Angela, and Kizzy. They decide to make a pact and agreement that changes their lives. They agree that by summertime, they should have lost enough weight and will be slim enough to fit into their bikinis.
Angela fears that her marriage could be crumbling and falling apart. She is compelled to face her self-esteem issues head on as they seem to have a way of holding her back. At the same time, she has to deal with her husband who seems intent on keeping her overweight. He seems to sabotage her diet. As all this is happening, Erin learns many things about love and related emotions.
Bikini Season is a funny story with an inspirational touch. It basically gives readers some insight on following your heart and being true to themselves. The story is a classic example of a group of women trying to enrich their lives.
Bikini Season was published by St.Martins Griffin on April 1, 2008. The novel is available in paperback and is 304 pages long.
Angel Lane
Angel Lane is the third novel written by Sheila Roberts. It is a fictional novel and was published by St.Martins Press on 29 September 2009. It is 352 pages long.
Just like her previous novel, Angel Lane is also set in Heart Lake, a small lakeside community. Three shop owners in the small town set out on an ambitious project and launch a crazy campaign. The objective of their campaign that is dubbed “Have a Heart” campaign basically encourages neighbors to try and commit a random act of kindness every single day.
Jamie, Emma and Sarah, the shop owners, love their small lakeside community and the fact that it is close knit. However, times are changing and their town seems to be growing too fast for their liking. For the three shop owners, it will not hurt anybody when they do a good deed or random act of kindness, or so they think.
Emma seems to give out blankets to anyone and everyone who seems to be feeling cold, even remotely. She has drastically reduced the prices of various items at her quilt shop, in keeping with their campaign’s mantra. In the process, Emma’s finances take a nose dive and she almost goes bankrupt in the process.
A local policeman in Heart Lake starts giving Jamie, a chocolate shop owner a lot of grief. Things seem to take a bittersweet turn. Her defenses and the wall that she had built around her begin to fall apart and subsequently melt away. The feelings that she had previously tried so hard to forget and bury begin to stir up.
Angel Lane is a story that is filled with warmth, humor, and affection. The story is basically about the chances that we take in our lives. It gives us some humorous and practical insight into the friendships and bonds that we create over time. Robert’s novel also shows how our lives are intertwined as we touch each others lives every other day.
