Ellery Adams is a prolific New York Time Best Selling author of cozy mysteries, having written several series and over 50 novels. She has also written a series of books under the pseudonym Lucy Arlington, team writing with Sylvia May. They joined forces to create A Novel Mystery Series.
Ms Adams was raised on the beach near Long Island Sound. She mourns a little that her adult years have been living in “landlocked towns.” She loves it when she has an occasion to visit the open ocean, enjoying the storms and familiar sea smells.
She’s had an eclectic career path: teacher, tech-writer, tutor, auto sales, retail sales, and caterer. These jobs allowed her the time writing various genres, including novels and children’s books and poems.
Now she is a highly successful full-time writer! Now her free time is spent enjoying baking, gardening, drinking barrels of coffee, and loving on her cats, husband, and two children (aka The Trolls), all in North Carolina. She’s also able to spend time rescuing animals.
Ms Adams has written several series of stories over her career. This new one is together intriguing and quirky. The setting is a Miracle Spring, North Carolina, a small-town club where the key to any person’s need for happiness or friendship, or even solving a murder, is all found within the right book.
There’s one person who can guide you to it. Miracle Springs is a place where one comes to heal. People flock to the natural hot springs, renowned spa, and Five-Star cuisine, hoping to cure their varied ills.
Many guests discover Miracle Books in the old train station. As they sit with a freshly baked “comfort” scone, baked by the Gingerbread House bakery, they tend to share their ills, as it were with Nora Pennington. A former librarian, she had a tragic accident that left her scarred inside and out. She came to Miracle Springs to start her life over.
She listens and empathizes, and with instinct and an uncanny ability, carefully chooses the perfect novel that is prescribed to ease that person’s heartfelt pain and hopefully, ease their burden.
In the first of the series, Secret, Book & Scone Society, we discover that the serenity of Miracle Springs is not all inclusive. A visiting businessman talks to Nora for some help and she knows exactly which books to recommend. He has an appointment with Nora but he doesn’t keep it. Unfortunately he was found dead on the railroad tracks.
Nora is shocked and upset. She decides to form to Secret, Book and Scone Society. She gathers a group of similar souls, somewhat damage and part of their healing will be to learn to trust and possibly gain some redemption by helping others.
Nora has one stipulation to be in the Society. Each person must share their darkest secret. It will be the one terrible truth that brought them to Miracle Springs.
The chosen women meet in Nora’s tiny, cozy bookstore. Their share stories, give each other support, and confess those troubles. They are able to find their own courage and purpose.
They become a strong sisterhood that will take them beyond the doors of Nora’s store. They are discovering they are strong and capable, and it’s proof to them all that you can always turn the page and start over… with a new perspective and purpose.
Paper Cuts, the sixth in the Secret, Book and Scone Society series. Nora Pennington, bibliotherapist, sometimes lands in hot water. She’s usually prescribing a book, the perfect book to cure her customers’ ills. Other times she is helping to solve crimes in the area. Her little group of Secret, Book, and Scone Society members give her great advice.
Nora Pennington hasn’t always been a bookshop owner. She has a past. Over decade she walks away from. Her world is slightly rocked when Kelly Walsh, the hussy her ex-husband walked out on her for, walks through her door.
Kelly needs Nora’s help. She’s not there to rub it in, on the contrary, she’s been dumped too. All she wants from Nora is forgiveness. Kelly does’t realize she need Nora’s help; she’s terribly sick.
She’s brought along her son, a sweet boy with a serious side, who’s a wiz at origami. His mother has had so much misfortune, but his mother is murdered. And the blame falls squarely on Nora!
The gossip mill is in overdrive and Nora is suspect number one. Kelly’s brother is saying he saw her and Nora having an argument. It certainly isn’t Nora. So who could it be?
The Secret, Book, and Scone Society is going to work to seek justice for Kelly and make sure Nora is found innocent. They are joining the others in the Sheriff’s Department.
The women have just started to begin their investigation when a major wrench is tossed into the mix. Estella’s father has returned to Miracle Springs. He has served his twenty-year prison sentence. Even after more than twenty years his past is coming back to bedevil him. This could be more than the four women can manage, especially without Nora’s help.
