About Jeff Shelby
An American author of mystery and thriller novels, Jeff Shelby is a true master of his craft, using tension and suspense to draw the reader in and hold them there. Keeping his audience glued to their seats, he understands the format perfectly, giving it his own unique fresh spin in the process. This idiosyncratic approach to the genre has ensured that he’s popular with readers from around the world, making a name for himself far and wide. Pushing at the boundaries of the genre, he really makes it his own, becoming a permanent fixture on the bookshelves of many, regardless of where they’re from.
Over the course of his literary career he’s written a vast body of work, really capturing reader’s attention with his ongoing arcs and stories. Keeping audiences coming back for more time and time again, he sets himself apart from other writers within his field, constantly taking the action up a level. All of this while saying something different in the process, speaking to readers in a way that’s both fresh and entirely new. Many of his books have gone on to become firm favorites in many households, as he’s acclaimed by both critics and the general public alike.
Characters are another key aspect of his work, as his protagonists feel as if they’re really alive, complete with their own internal worlds. Essentially coming alive on the page, they are sure to leave an impact on many, making an impression that stays with the reader long after they’ve put the book down. Immersing themselves in the stories, readers feel as though they can fully explore his novels, with many of them being set in distinct locations. Also writing many cozy mysteries as well, he’s definitely a writer with a lot more to say, as he isn’t putting away his pen any time soon.
Early and Personal Life
Growing up around the beaches of Southern California, Jeff Shelby would always have a keen interest in the written word. Developing this for much of his life, he would seek to find his own voice as an author, constantly immersing himself in mysteries and thrillers. Graduating from the University of California at Irvine, he would also occasionally write under the name of Jeffrey Allen as well. Currently living in Dallas, Texas, he continues to write regularly and consistently while also spending time in Minnesota, and has a lot more still set to come in the near future.
Writing Career
Starting out his literary career back in 2001, Jeff Shelby would begin by writing the book ‘Dead Week,’ which was a stand-alone thriller. A few years later in 2005 he would go on to begin his much loved ‘Noah Braddock’ series of mystery novels featuring the eponymous private investigator. Other series that he would write would include ‘Joe Tyler,’ ‘Moose River Mystery,’ ‘Rainy Day Mystery,’ Capitol Cases Mystery,’ ‘Elizabeth Tyler Mystery,’ and ‘Sunny Springfield Mystery.’
He would also later write two further stand-alone mystery novels, with ‘Playing the Game’ in 2016, and ‘The Last Time I Saw Them’ in 2021. They have also contributed to various different series written alongside other writers, such as the ‘Out of Time’ collection in 2012.Regularly communicating with his audience, he maintains a presence both online and off, and will continue to do so for a long time to come.
Drift Away
Initially published through the Kindle publishing platform, this would first come out back in 2012 on the 17th of June. The fourth book in the ongoing ‘Noah Braddock’ series of novels, it would continue in much the same vein as before, while paving the way for more. Featuring the eponymous private investigator and surfer from San Diego in California, it offers another self-contained mystery for him to solve.
Healing on the Florida Panhandle, Noah has put San Diego behind him for the time being, following a series of traumatic events. That’s when he’s approached by a boy on the beach who can’t find his mother, and he finds himself drawn into both their lives, attempting to help protect them from thugs. On top of all of this, shadowy figures from Noah’s past show up in Florida, as he finds himself being haunted by memories resurfacing, along with a threat to the life of the mother and her son. Will he be able to put a stop to those making the threats, can he reckon with his own past, and what will become of him as his life begins to drift away?
It’s an instantly engaging story that really keeps the reader invested in what’s going, right from the beginning, all the way through to the epic conclusion. Developing the character of Noah Braddock even further, he further established the world, knowing exactly where to take the reader and when. With all sorts of drama along the way, the book moves along at a well sustained pace, making the most of each and every element to thrilling effect.
Thread of Fear
Originally coming out in 2015 on the 5th of January, this would be the fifth book in the ongoing ‘Joe Tyler’ series of novels. The series follows the character of Joe Tyler as he attempts to find his daughter after she was abducted years ago. Solving mysteries, this book would come out through ‘Mission Bay Publishing,’ it features its own self-contained story, although the books are best read in order.
Having finally found his daughter, Joe Tyler has brought her home to safety after a decade of searching for her. That’s when John Anchor, the man who helped Joe find his daughter Elizabeth, turns up asking him to return the favor, as he did so at a cost. Joe knows he owes John, but it may cost him so much, but, if he doesn’t go through with it, it may cost him even more. Will Joe be able to help out John in his time of need, just what is he asking for, and where will his journey take him as he pulls on the thread of fear?
As another thrilling instalment in an already epic series, this really takes the action up another level for the readers. Pushing the story forwards, everything moves along at an exciting pace, constantly keeping the audience guessing as to what’s coming next. Easy to pick up, it’s also difficult to put down, really holding the reader on the edge of their seat and not letting go for the duration.
