Order of Inspector Maigret Books
Inspector (or Commissaire) Jules Maigret is the lead character in a series of detective fiction novels by Belgian author Georges Simenon. Maigret is a French detective who works for the Paris Brigade Criminelle. He is best known for smoking his pipe, his detective style of mixing intuition with method and his love of alcohol. While the character is based in France, he also has ended up working in Belgium, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Holland and the USA. The series has been adapted into several television and radio adaptations in several different languages.
Jules Maigret made his debut in the novel The Strange Case of Peter the Lett, which was also published as The Case of Peter the Lett and Maigret and the Enigmatic Lett. Published in 1931 in French, the original French title of the novel was Pietr-le-Letton. The final novel in the series was Maigret and Monsieur Charles, published in 1972, and was the 75th book in the series.
