Harper Harlow Mystery by Lily Harper Hart

Author Lily Harper Hart pens the “Harper Harlow” series of cozy mystery novels. The series began publication in the year 2015, when “Ghostly Interests” was released.

Harper Harlow is able to see and talk to ghosts. She works with Jared Monroe, a detective on the police force, and a non-believer when it comes to ghosts.

“Ghostly Interests” is the first novel in the “Harper Harlow Mystery” series and was released in the year 2015. Harper Harlow inhabits a world of ghosts. She is able to see them and she talks to them. She investigates them and then sends them on their merry way. She is not at all embarrassed by these abilities, and she is unafraid about being who she is. Harper isn’t interested in a relationship.

Jared Monroe, a smooth-talking detective, sees things in black and white and ignores all shades of gray. He doesn’t believe in ghosts. Despite being intrigued by this feisty blonde ghost detective, he is uninterested in the paranormal.

Annie Dresden’s corpse washes up on the beach of Whisper Cove, Jared and Harper collide. Sparks might be flying, but so are mistrust and confusion. Harper calls on her loyal group of ghost hunters to solve the case, and Jared calls on his own training to approach the same problem. It does not really matter what path they take because all paths are destined to intersect at some point.

Will Jared and Harper learn to work together? More importantly, can some new ghosts let go of the past and give in to a rather obscure future? It is anybody’s guess when some big personalities go to war and they learn that they could have more in common than they first thought.

Each of these characters are described, making it easy to know who everybody is, and have their own personalities and styles.

“Ghostly Issues” is the second novel in the “Harper Harlow Mystery” series and was released in the year 2015. Harper Harlow has got the world at her fingertips, as well as the weight of the world on her shoulders. Whisper Cove’s ghost hunter finds her professional life soars, as her personal life flounders. She is currently on a man diet. Absolutely nothing is going to tempt her, so she claims, anyway.

Jared Monroe believed ten days away would be nothing. Until Harper’s anger hit him right in the face, and his heart, when he came back to town. He did not mean to hurt Harper, however a woman’s anger runs deep.

A teen is found in a park, Harper and Jared find that their paths are crossing, again. Derek Thompson might have been looking forward to a bright future, however, now he is just looking back at a tortured past while his killer runs free.

Harper and Jared must work together, and confront their issues, if they want to put Derek to rest. Working together is an excellent idea, until hormones get in their way. Could this couple ever find some common ground? More importantly, is the dark underbelly in Whisper Cove survive this sordid truth? Only time is going to tell, however, time is something these two are running low on.

“Ghostly Deceits” is the third novel in the “Harper Harlow Mystery” series and was released in the year 2016. Harper and Jared are going on a vacation. Well, kinda.

This newly minted couple are in a good place right now, so when Jared asks Harper to go to Harsens Island so they can visit an old friend and his family, she jumps at the chance to go. Josh Stoker and Jared have a ton to catch up on, including the tough financial times the Stoker family struggles with. To try and keep their business empire afloat, they have turned their ancestral home and transformed it into an inn. This week they happen to be hosting a murder mystery event.

Jared and Harper are up for playing, however a real ghost turns up and one dangerous storm hits right into the island, and things begin spiraling out of control. There is a killer in the house, and Jared and Harper have to figure out who did it before there is another body.

Jared doesn’t want to suspect his buddy, however, nobody can be ruled out. The truth finally comes out, and two murders are going to be solved. Additionally, Jared and Harper are going to be in a whole new place in their relationship. Assuming, of course, they are able to survive long enough to get off the island. It is all hands on deck for another ghostly mystery. Danger is the name of this game. So is betrayal, unfortunately.

“Ghostly Worries” is the fourth novel in the “Harper Harlow Mystery” series and was released in the year 2016. Whisper Cove is in a heat wave, however, it is nothing compared to the fire that stokes between Jared and Harper. They are happy and they enjoy themselves. Until a face from the past resurfaces.

Jason Thurman and Harper had a short fling while in high school. He returns to town in order to open up a restaurant and hopes they can restart their relationship as adults. Harper only wants to be friends with this amiable guy, however, he appears to be determined despite the protests she has made.

A body drops in his restaurant, Harper finds she is in a unique situation. The dead woman died in a gruesome way, however, she is unlikable and helping her out is tougher than Harper ever thought. Mainly because she keeps secrets from the sole people that can solve her murder.

With a brewing fight with Zander, Jason’s unwanted attention, and a foe that nobody can pin down, Harper has her hands full. Jared’s by her side, but jealousy has been getting the better of him even while he struggles doing right by his blonde.

The end comes, is Jared going to be too distracted to realize who the true foe is? Is Harper’s insistence on believing Jason is innocent be her downfall in the end? Time will tell, and the clock is ticking.
