Complicating matters, she recently became governess and nanny to the young daughter of a duke and then proceeded to fall in love with the man.

She now has two suitors, even as her ex who had abandoned her days before her wedding has said that she still has strong feelings for Susan. Susan believes that she would be better off letting her heart rather than her mind decide.

If she let people decide for her she would have to do her duty and get married to a man she does not love and provide for a family. For once, she decides not to listen to convention, as she is more interested in passion and love, and believes this is what is needed for a good marriage.
