HN Wake is a mystery thriller author best known for writing the bestselling and award-winning “Mac Ambrose” and “FBI Agent Domini Walker” series of novels. She decided to take on the name of Nancy Wake, an amazing WWII British spy since she did not want to have her work perceived from the lens of her gender. Wake was once upon a time a US government employee where she spent more than two decades. It could be that she has access to the workings of intelligence and spying operations during the twenty years she was working overseas in Europe, Asia, and Africa. However, no one knows what exactly he did before she became an author. She now writes mystery thrillers that deal with environmental, political, and social issues. She published her debut novel “A Spy Came Home” of the “Mac Ambrose” series of novels in 2014. Wake currently has more than eight novels in the two series of novels. In addition to her novels, she has also a short story titled “Ghosts in Macau.” She is a passionate follower of international relations and politics and loves to garden and scuba dive whenever she has the time. She currently lives with her husband and their dog on the East Coast.

When she got out of government and came back to the United States, she decided to spend some time in LA where she interacted with many creative types. The people she hung out with had a unique and amazing perspective and talked about their latest scripts, characters, and stories in a manner that got her interested in writing. What got her interested was when one of them explained how a movie was written and suddenly, she thought writing a story was not that complicated. She had a few stories swishing around her head from her life overseas and thought that she would like to get them out. The next day Wake downloaded Scrivener and started typing away combining bravado and a splash of naivete. Six months later, she had the first draft of her manuscript that she sent to a friend to look over. The friend told her she had a unique voice but even though it sounded awesome she did not understand what that meant. Elated she took her dog for a walk and she asserts that it was one of the most confidence-boosting moments of her writing career. That first manuscript was submitted to a contest and while it never made the quarters, she was hooked into writing and her second one was a huge improvement. She then realized that if she wanted to become an author, she needed to start the journey of querying even if she hated the salesy meetings with agents and editors. When she heard about self-publishing it sounded like a godsend and soon after she had published her first novel “A Spy Came Home.”

Many of HN Wake’s novels are set in diverse settings across the world, having spent much of her time outside the US particularly in Asia. Mac Ambrose her lead protagonist in her debut has many adventures in the diverse and fascinating regions of Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Macau. Wake has asserted that her senses were always attuned to the colors, the smells, the sounds, the politics, and culture whenever she was in the exotic settings. This made it easier to write about these places. As for her lead protagonist in the popular “Mac Ambrose” series, she has asserted that she realized that most female spies were inauthentic and cartoonish and hence wanted to change that perception. This was as compared to the many real and gritty male spies that could be found anywhere you cared to look.

“A Spy Came Home” the first novel of the “Mac Ambrose” series of novels by HN Wake is the story of a conspiracy and a mission. It involves two old hand agents that have to dance around in a daring cat and mouse game that could have far-reaching consequences. Mac Ambrose is a gutsy and gritty veteran of the CIA that has been with the agency for the better part of two decades. He has been known to have a strong moral conscience though he is sometimes prone to taking on too much risk. At the start of the story, she is approached by her closest friends who want her help in running an operation to weaken or destroy a powerful gun lobby that would make it possible for the Senate to enact some new legislation. It is a dangerous mission that is only complicated by the fact that it has to be completed within four weeks. From the wealthy suburbs of New Orleans to the rolling hills of Kentucky and the corridors of power in Washington, Mac sets the trap for a crooked gun manufacturer, an unprincipled lobbyist, and an immoral lawmaker.
