Diane Greenwood Muir
Diane Greenwood Muir is a fiction writer known for her cozy, sweet, and well-thought-out novels. The talented author confesses that she writes about the great people she has interacted with in her life. Muir grew up in a small Midwestern town where neighbors were close, and the family stuck together no matter the situation. While Muir writes in the fiction category, she also includes bits of her memories growing up in the rural setup.
All Roads Lead Home
All Roads Lead Home is the first book in the Bellingwood series. The book stars Polly Giller, a woman who has recently moved from Boston to Iowa. Polly wants to start her life afresh. It is not like there was anything wrong with her previous one, but she just wants a fresh start. Polly uses her inheritance to buy an old school building in the small town of Bellingwood. The plan is to renovate the house and make it habitable once more. The renovations are in top gear when bones are discovered in the ceiling. While Polly is shaken, everyone in this town knows who these bones belong to.
This is not the last shocking event that is going to happen in Polly’s new home. Soon enough, she will discover crates of items from the sixties all the way to the nineties. Could there be a connection between the two bodies and these items? It is hard to think about these things when there is a committee of women who seem to know nothing about boundaries. Fortunately, these women and Polly become fast friends. Among them is the Sheriff’s wife. This works to Polly’s advantage because her new friend makes it easy to access the Sheriff so that he can solve the mystery. Polly’s former boyfriend also shows up, which only makes the situation more awkward.
These women who push themselves into Polly’s life are a bit older than her, but she will soon realize that they are as fun as the friends she left in Boston. Among these women in Lydia Merritt, the loving and passionate woman who also turns out to be the Sheriff’s wife, and Beryl Watson, a flamboyant artist. There is also Sylvie Donovan, a single mother to two young boys and Andy Saner, a great organizer and loving soul. Even the men in Polly’s new home are intriguing. Starting with Henry Sturtz, the carpenter who obviously has a crush on Polly, Billy Endicott, and Doug Randall. These people become Polly’s new family, and they fill her life with drama, laughter, and loads of entertainment.
All Roads Lead Home is an entertaining cosy story with just a hint of mystery. Polly’s becomes the topic of gossip in her new home, but the excitement soon shifts from her when bones from two bodies are discovered in her ceiling. The people who seemed pushy turn into friends fast and they help Polly settle in her new home. If you are looking for a story that is more cosy than mysterious, this book is perfect. The book is also perfect if you are looking for a simple read you can enjoy on a summer afternoon.
Abiding Love
Abiding Love is the first book in the Abide with Me series. The book recreates the biblical story of Ruth and the loving connections she made with those around her. Naomi had gone through a lot in life. He previous joys were replaced with paralyzing grief, but through it all, she has a team of friends who were always by her side. Ruth was among those who never left her side. The young woman left the homeland she knew to accompany Naomi on a journey to another land. While there were many circumstances that could have pulled them apart, Ruth is determined to stay in Naomi’s life.
In this book, the author explores love in different aspects. Naomi was so in love with Eli that she followed him to different parts of the world on his missionary work. Naomi, her husband, and two sons finally settled in Africa where they managed a missionary school. When an epidemic arose, the family sent the sons away, but Naomi stayed back with her husband to help those in need. Unfortunately, Eli becomes sick and died, leaving Naomi, a widow in a foreign land. Naomi was devastated by the loss, but she had to hold it together for the sake of her sons.
Naomi’s two sons later on married and lived a good life for a while. However, disaster struck yet again, and the two sons were murdered, the mission was left in shambles, and Naomi lost another part of her. Naomi and her sons’ wives managed to get to the airport, but the grieving mother felt that the two girls were better off amongst their people. At least in the villages, the young women had better chances of finding love again than being stuck in America, a land they knew nothing about. Naomi asked the girls to go back home, and while Oman left, Ruth refused to leave her mother-in-law’s side.
The two women landed in America penniless, and the only hope they had was in Eli’s family in California. Naomi and Ruth somehow didn’t fit in the family, so they had to figure out life on their own. Ruth worked hard to provide for the mother-in-law who spent most of her time wallowing in sorrow over her losses. With time, Naomi discovers that Ruth is a great gift from God. Through Ruth, God had remained a good companion and fulfilled the promise he made to always take care of her no matter the situation. How does the story end for these two women? Does their love for each other last till the end?
Abiding Love is the contemporary re-imagining of Ruth and Naomi’s story. The story is wonderfully told, and there is so much love the book will move you to tears. This book is perfect if you are looking for an inspiring read based on the bible. While there is the biblical element, you will find this story intriguing even if you know nothing about religion.
