Horowitz gets taken in against his will and soon discovers that he’s at the heart of a story that he does not have control over.

Hawthorne is short, with a temper and moody, and also occasionally irritating. But the case that he’s taking on is irresistible to the writer, who forms a team with the detective. But it starts to become apparent that the detective may be keeping some secrets of his own to himself. What are they and will they impact the writer negatively, who sees them only too late?
