Darkwater Cove
The story features a widowed ex-FBI agent, Darcy Gellar, with a traumatic past. Three years ago, she almost died in the hands of a serial killer, and now struggling with her demons, she relocates her family to Genoa Cove. Genoa, also known as Darkwater Cove, is a small town, and Darcy thought her family would be happy to start afresh after retiring early from the agency. Since the killer is now serving a life sentence in prison after his arrest, she believes the nightmares will end.
A while later, a body is found along the coast, and the suspect is thought to be one man, the killer Darcy, put in prison some years back. Either Darcy arrested the wrong person, or there is an apprentice serial killer. When the killer kills another person, Darcy starts to experience the nightmare she had three years ago.
Residents and law enforcement are unwilling to get involved in the mystery and become hostile, which leaves this harassed mother wondering whether she made the right choice in Georgia. When a victim of the same serial killer gets in touch with her, she becomes more afraid. Is the killer still targeting her? Does she need to be afraid? Is there anyone she can trust around her family?
Darcy is not only unveiling a mystery but also facing a killer who knows her biggest fear. The killer seems to stop at nothing until he kills Darcy and destroys her family. Will Darcy be able to stop the serial killer as she did before?
In this gripping psychological thriller, Dan Padavona wants the readers to uncover the truth behind lies and secrets as they play detective and unveil the new killer’s identity. The author masterfully weaves a series of fear and deceit while throwing some twists and turns to keep you guessing.
Darcy is a flawed character, and you’ll feel like helping her out when she hits the rock as she tries to figure out who to trust. Dealing with teenagers is also difficult for her considering what she’s going through. Having lost her husband, she is left to raise her two kids alone. Her son, Hunter, wants to help her mom, but he is also traumatized by the loss of his father and his mother’s problems. They love each other like mother and son but don’t communicate well at times. The author adds some twists and turns to keep the reader guessing what will happen next.
Her Last Breath
After getting shot while on duty, Detective Thomas Shepherd goes back to Wolf Lake to collect pieces of his broken life. This is the first book in the wolf lake series.
Wolf Lake Inn resort is in Nightshade County and was an expensive and exclusive vacation destination. Thomas is living in peace in the resort until one day, the body of a missing lady’s found on the lakeshore, and people blame a teenage boy with a past of violence.
Might the killer be stalking the resort village? However, Thomas doesn’t believe the teenager committed the crime and challenges the villagers that he wants justice at all cost. As he pursues the real killer, more evidence points to the teenager, and if he fails in the investigations, the boy will be jailed.
Thomas gets to know his next-door neighbors after purchasing his late uncle’s house near the lake. His wealthy parents think he is back to live in their luxurious home and hold the family’s business’s CEO seat. His parents have never wanted him to be a detective and want him to run the business.
Knowing his neighbors, Naomi, and her disabled daughter, Scout, are mourning, Thomas decides to attend an off-duty mission to help them. Will Thomas protect all the people in his life?
Will Thomas clear the boy’s name in time before he becomes the next victim? Dan Padavona weaves a mystery tale that keeps the reader hooked to the end. The characters are well fleshed out and believable to make the story livelier. The author incorporates twists and turns to bring suspense that keeps the reader guessing what will happen next.
Thomas is an intriguing, determined, protective, and hardworking character. He worked out issues very well and never gave up. His interaction with Scout while they worked together is admirable. He also dealt with Naomi, LaVar, Raven, and Chelsey amazingly.
Bury Her Bones
This is the second novel in a gripping serial Killer Darkwater Cove series. The book starts where the first novel ended, and agent Darcy Gellar survives the killer and rescues her daughter. This time, the story is focused on Darcy’s cousin Laurie’s home in Scarlet River. Laurie says that she believes there is someone who’s been following her. The killer appears to stop at nothing until Darcy and her family members are dead.
When a mysterious stalker terrorizes her cousin, Darcy relocates her family to Scarlet River, a town with a history of unsolved murders and kidnappings. Soon another girl goes missing, and the county sheriff ass Darcy to his suspect list.
She’s looking for the psychopath and she realizes that the killer now wants her dead. A trap is set for Darcy and her children, and if the killer captures her in the dark woods while investigating, no one will hear her screams, and no one will find out where he buried her bones. Darcy is left with no option but to find the real killer and clear her name.
