D. Kelly is an American romance author of the Illusion series, The Acceptance series, and several standalone books. She was born and spent her childhood in southern California. Kelly’s interest in writing started at a younger age as she took joy in crafting stories for her childhood friends. Now a published contemporary romance author, her books mainly major in friendship and its role in strengthening the love for people sharing it. She is a wife, mother, dog lover and a multitasker married to her high school lover.
In Breaking Kate, the first book in D. Kelly’s Acceptance series, we are introduced to Kate. She lost her mother at a very young age; worse, her father was never around to take care of her. Despite this, Kate sought refuge from her best friend, Michael, and Jess. She thought she had it all until Michael’s father died. That was when her sweet life as she knew it changed forever. That day, she lost the man she thought she would spend the rest of her life with. Michael just shuts Kate off from his world, and nothing she would do would convince him to make things right with her.
As years go by, Kate’s other friend Jess tries to keep her on track and convinces her to go back to school and focus on helping others. During school sessions, she meets a man named Connor, and the two soon become great friends. Connor thinks of Kate as his little sister. But one day, Connor throws a party and invites Daniel and Kate over, and Connor promises her that Daniel is the man to take everything off her mind for the night. She can’t say no to Connor and goes on to learn more about Daniel and what she finds out is a man who wants to get her more than anything. The more the two talk, the more they feel like they have known each other their whole life. After the one night talk and exchanging hot kisses, Kate knows deep down that she wants to get to know him much better. But as expected, the past has a way of returning and hurting you more when you least expected it to.
Daniel is one of the most handsome, sweetest, and kind man you will ever meet. He has bedded many women but has always treated them right. But his recent ex-girlfriend hurt him so much that he has difficulty trusting and letting women in her heart. But when Connor calls him to come to the party, he can’t refuse the favor. So he attends and what he finds is the woman his heart wants to marry. After a night of talking and kissing, he knows he needs to get to know her more.
On the other hand, Michael tries to move on after breaking up with Kate. He hopes that time will heal his heart, but to the contrary, what time has done is make him want more of her. So he tries to use other women to keep Kate out of his mind. He gets a job working for one of his friend’s dad’s companies and climbs the ladder up the company. But even with all this positivity in the workplace, he can’t stop thinking about the one woman he desires, Kate. After talking to his friend about Kate, he decides to track her down and see whether she will give him a second chance.
Overall, Breaking Kate is an excellent novel about a great love torn down due to a tragedy that happens and years later getting reunited with the incredible love you once knew. D. Kelly’s writing style is fantastic, beautiful, and easy to follow. The story brings out a lot of mixed emotions, from laughing, crying, getting attached to the characters, and so much more. The story ends on a cliffhanger, so you must read the next in the series to know what happens next.
Just an Illusion- Side A is the first book in D. Kelly’s The Illusion series. We are introduced to Amelia Greyson, a bestseller author with some big secrets from her past that she keeps trying to hide. However, these secrets are getting harder to hide, especially when she is chosen to write the tell-all book about one of the biggest rock bands, which means she would be going on a tour with Bastards and Dangerous group.
Meet the Weston brothers, Sawyer and Noah, as they head up the band of groups. Noah is a man with a heart of gold that any girl would be lucky to have, and then there is Sawyer, a bad boy who exudes sex. The two brothers want Amelia, but how will it work when they live on a tour bus for the next year?
The Weston brothers once let a woman come between them before, and they won’t allow that to happen again, especially when it could potentially destroy their family. What will happen when Amelia’s real identity is finally revealed?
Mel and Sawyer have instant chemistry, but Mel does resist and pushes him away for the sake of professionalism. But as she gets to know the band and spends time with them on the bus, both Noah and Sawyer develop feelings for her. Which one will she choose for herself? Will she choose Sawyer, the lousy body with personal demons, or Noah, the do-gooder man who says and does the right thing? Sawyer has the entire world’s burden on his shoulders from something he saw as a kid. Is Amelia going to be the woman who can break everything that’s making him self-destructive?
At the same time, Belle and Darren- the drummer, grow closer to each other, but a surprise awaits them, which might change everything forever. As Mel makes her final choice between the two brothers and allows herself to love, a crazy ex of Mel’s new boyfriend comes into the picture and turns all their lives upside down. The ex’s instability is an evidence that she is unwilling to let Mel have the man and willing to do whatever it takes to ensure their love never happens- even if it means killing.
