Publication Order of Richard Blade Books

The Blade series is a well known adventure series written by the authors Manning Lee Stokes, Ray Nelson, Roland J. Green, and a few others under the collective pseudonym of Jeffrey Lord. This series features adult fantasy and pulp fiction novels, which were released between the years 1969 and 1984. There is a total of 37 books in this adventurous series, all of which were produced by the Pinnacle Books. In addition to the paperback editions, the books of this series were released in the forms of audiobooks and CDs. The series is also known by the name Richard Blade based on its titular character of the same name, who is depicted as a special agent working for MI6A. In each of the books, author Lord has shown the adventures of Richard Blade, who gets teleported into an alternate dimension randomly at the start of each story and then relies on his strength and wits to overcome the obstacles in his path. Along his way back to the real world, he indulges in sexual encounters with many beautiful women on multiple occasions, which are quite explicitly described by Jeffery Lord. The sexual activities of Richard Blade take place both in alternate dimensions and in England.

Usually, Richard Blade returns from the adventures with some antique item or knowledge that becomes useful for Britain. In the end, it is learned that he is sent to all those random places with the intention that he will come back with something useful. The character of Richard Blade is described distinctly as British. Each of the stories depicted in the books takes place in England. The setup is shown in England at least at the start and end of the novels, with the bulk of the stories being shown taking place in some alternate dimension, where Richard Blade is teleported. The series’ books were translated into multiple foreign languages such as Swedish, Greek, Russian, German, French, etc. During the early nineties, the publishers from Russia could obtain the rights of only the initial 6 books of the Blade series. Later, they approached a translator named Mikhail Akhmanov and asked him to write Richard Blade’s next adventures. Eventually, Mikhail Akhmanov teamed up with the science fiction novelist Nick Perumov and a few others for completing more than 16 sequels to the Blade adventures. Later, the team of writes also created a number of original plots and characters. The Russian sequels of Richard Blade were not published in English and therefore remain unavailable. Author Akhmanov is now regarded as one of the bestselling and respected authors of over 50 science fiction and fantasy novels like Richard Blade.

An initial novel written in the Blade series is entitled ‘Slave of Sarma’. It was released in the year 1974. Author Lord has introduced the main characters in the story of this book as Richard Blade, Lord Leighton, and several others. At the start of the plot, it is depicted that Lord Leighton happily pressed a button and Blade smiled back at him before getting teleported. Just as the switch was pressed, a stream of current flew through Richard Blade’s body. Moving in a sluggish way at first, the current flew inside his veins like stagnant water from canals and the quickly changed into a burst. Richard Blade was still conscious as he saw his body turn into a flying rocket. The electrical power caused his brain to flare and explode, which was followed by a powerful scream. Within no time, Blade’s body left the launching pad and was flared and launched into the outer space. Richard Blade felt as if his mind was melting. He experiences tiny puddles of liquid running through his brain, melting and remelting, forming and reforming in a chemical process. In the end, Blade was soaring. When he woke up, he found that he has landed in a new universe, which has not been made yet. There is no one around except him. Blade soared forever as he was not able to seeing any beginning anywhere around, and therefore he thought that there is no end to it. Once again, Richard Blade was projected into a violent and strange land by Lord Leighton’s computer. This strange land is known as Sarma. Here, Blade was required to battle against an agent from Russia, who was a duplicate of his own. It is only later that Richard Blade realizes he is not going to fight the agent alone. Along with the agent, he was going to fight and survive the insatiable and barbaric female warriors of Sarma. Blade knows that he has been sent to Sarma and he tries his level best to fulfill it, and try not to get killed in doing so.

Another successful book published as a part of this series is called as ‘Liberator Of Jedd’. This novel was released by the Pinnacle publication in 1971. The central characters of this story include Ooma, Richard Blade, Mitgu, etc. At the beginning of the novel, Richard is once again shown as a gentleman from England perfect for carrying out some of the most unusual experiments. As per the latest scientific experiment tried on him, he is teleported back to live in the Stone Age. Blade is made to live in caves in the company of strange and otherworldly creatures. After some time, Blade is confronted by some fierce ape men, who seem to have necrophiliac penchant. One among the slaves escapes and is later found to be as the lovely Jedd survivor named Ooma. It is later learned that Ooma belongs to a doomed civilization. Richard quickly falls in love with her as he cannot resist her exquisite beauty. However, the dying Empress of the Jedds asks Richard Blade to get married to the child Princess named Mitgu. Also, Blade is given the tough job of leading the Jedds away from the plague ridden valley and reach the Shining Gate. Richard knows that while carrying out this difficult mission, he will have to fight the deadly ape people once again. Several other untold dangers also lie in the path. As he begins this task, Blade experiences the deadliest and adventurous battles. His ability to succeed in every mission handed over to him and having done so for the past so many years makes everyone wonder how can a single man dare to take so much of a risk so often and still come out as whole and unscathed. Only Richard knows how he is able to do the impossible and force his fate to kneel before him. The book turned out to be a great success all across the globe.
