About Barbara Ebel
The American author Barbara Ebel is well known for her medical suspense novels, creating an air of tension quite unlike any other. This has proven to be a hugely successful formula for much of her writing career, as her stories are extremely authentic and realistic throughout. Drawing the reader in, she holds them there, keeping them on the edge of their seat and not letting go right until the end. Knowing the subject matter well too, with herself having a background in the field of medicine, she really immerses the reader in her world.
Creating a number of books and series over the course of her career, she really does manage to write something that’s quite different. Getting straight to the heart of her subject matter, she writes in style that is direct and to the point, while also being unique. Becoming a household name for many around the world, she continues to draw in audiences, as her work resonates far and wide. Whether it’s her well written characters or her expertly paced narratives, she leaves no stone unturned when it comes to creative inspiration.
The characters themselves resonate in that they’re well drawn and effective, as they essentially come alive on the page. This then leaves a strong lasting impression upon the readers, as it stays with them long after they’ve put the book down. Many of her leading protagonists have become iconic in of themselves over the years, as they ensure the readers keep returning. With plenty more novels to come in the future too, she’s not stopping anytime soon either, as her writing career continues upwards and onwards.
Early and Personal Life
Growing up with a keen interest in both reading and writing, Barbara Ebel was always heavily invested in all things literature. This would develop through the years, as her passion for writing would continue to evolve alongside her various other pursuits. Taking in inspiration from the world around her, in time she managed to craft herself a style that was very much her own.
Attending the University of Louisville she would graduate from medical school where she would also gain residency. Practising in both Florida and Kentucky, she’d work as an anaesthesiologist for some time before retiring due to a disability. Keeping her license though, she continues to speak on her practice, while also writing full-time, which she continues to do from her home in Tennessee.
Writing Career
The first adult series that Barbara Ebel brought out was titled ‘Dr. Annabel Tilson’ and it would feature the eponymous protagonist in a collection of suspense thrillers. Fun and engaging, the series itself would begin with the novel ‘Dead Still’ back in 2016, as six other titles would shortly follow. Using her knowledge of the medical profession, Ebel would create highly authentic and effective suspense thrillers.
She’d also create the series ‘Dr. Danny Tilson,’ along with ‘The Outlander Physician’ and ‘Chester the Chesapeake’ to name just some. Whether it’s children’s books or adult thrillers, Ebel always has something important to say through her work. There’s a lot more to come in the future too, as she’s finding an audience worldwide, with more and more discovering her work every day.
Secondary Impact
Published by Barbara Ebel, M.D. herself, this would originally come out in 2015 on the 21st of November to much acclaim. It would mark the fourth title in the ongoing ‘Dr. Danny Tilson’ series, delivering another suspense fuelled narrative for the eponymous doctor. While it’s a stand-alone title, it does features elements and arcs from the other books, with ongoing threads brought over.
The story is well told and engaging, with plenty of character development throughout, delivered in a compelling and entertaining manner. Bringing each of the characters to the forefront, it really manages to carry the story along in an intelligent and well thought out style. Building upon the world of the series too, it really evolves what is an intricate and highly immersive set of novels.
During a game of college basketball a player gets knocked down being sent into a coma, and it’s the boyfriend of Dr. Danny Tilson’s daughter. Watching the game himself, Danny Tilson seeks to help the athlete, but his daughter feels like he could do more, as he starts to wonder if the technology is enough. That’s when he begins to seek new improvements to the technology at hand, all while dealing with the obstacles placed in his way by his daughter Annabel, along with his nemesis Rachel. Can he find the new technological breakthrough he’s looking for? Is he going to be able to overcome the difficulties in his path? Will he be able to save the boyfriend from secondary impact?
Desperate To Die
Once again published by Barbara Mary Ebel herself, this would first come out in 2017 on the 29th of June to much acclaim. It would also be the third book in the ‘Dr. Annabel Tilson’ series, which would itself be a spin-off from the ‘Dr Danny Tilson’ series, with her being his daughter. With ‘Deadly Delusions’ preceding it in 2016, and ‘Death Grip’ following on in 2018, it’s an entirely stand-alone title.
Researched with precision, it’s a believable book about the medical profession that’s easy to pick up and difficult to put down. There’s many interesting themes underlying the story too, as Ebel definitely has something to say throughout this novel. The world and the characters are well established, making for an effective and suspense fuelled narrative that’s well thought out.
Dealing with the death of one of her patients, Dr. Annabel Tilson is beginning to discover that the death might not be quite so natural after all. She then experiences a loss herself, while also having to deal with the confusion surrounding the male friendships in her life, as she must deal with end-of-life care. That’s when it seems that patients are being discharged by a presence that has an agenda that has yet to reveal itself. Where does euthanasia and murder meet? Who is doing this and why? Which of the patients really are desperate to die?
