Abby Klein is one of the renowned authors from The United States, who is famous for writing humorous stories suitable for elementary aged children. She is particularly popular for writing and publishing the Ready, Freddy! series. In writing this series, she has made use of the classroom experiences that she gained while teaching. Her experiences have helped her to create dramatic and humorous stories. In addition to being a noteworthy author, Klein works as a teacher of kindergarten and first grade students. She is happily married and has a couple of children. Author Klein is also very fond of pet dogs. She has a total of 4 dogs with her at her home in Vermont. Author Klein says that she was born and brought up in Los Angeles, California. She went on to graduate from the Dartmouth College and obtained her credentials as a teacher. Klein earned her major degree in the subjects of education and psychology. Later, author Klein joined the Harvard Graduate Education School and obtained a master’s degree with language development and reading. As of now, Klein is involved in teaching at a public elementary school located in her area in Los Angeles. This school is the same one in which she had studied as a child. For a period of more than 15 years, author Klein has been working as a first grade and kindergarten teacher. She is known to be highly involved in the community of her school, as a teacher as well as a parent. Klein has enrolled both her students at the same school where she is teaching. Also, Klein has indulged herself as her district’s ‘teacher-leader’. For numerous years in this role, Klein has presented workshops for staff development at the school and district levels. With all her workshops she tries to focus on literacy, writing, and reading. Author Klein has also been involved as a presenter at several national conferences.

The Ready Freddy! novel series is her first released series. In this series, author Klein has tried to introduce true to life drama and humor in the right amount. The series is specifically centered at the younger readers and Klein has brought a fresh voice for them through the interesting books of the series. The overall series describes a great humor sense, showing the trials of a first grade student name Freddy Thresher, with a unique perspective. The stories appear to be utterly authentic as author Klein has drawn them from the real life experiences that she went through in her own classrooms. By reading the books, it seems quite clear that author Klein is aware of exactly how the first graders think. Author Klein lives with her family in Los Angeles. Klein believes that there is no better experience than having the chance to read a nice book. She always likes to read out loud to her children. Whenever she gets any spare time her busy schedule, Klein likes to spend some quality time with her family at her house. She like to indulge in doing creative things with both her children. Among them, reading is the most favorite of all of them. Klein’s husband is very supportive of her and he always encourages her to overcome the hardships and continue to write good humorous novels in the days to come.

The Ready Freddy series written by Abby Klein consists of 27 novels in total, which were released between the years 2004 and 2013. All the books of this series feature the central character in the role of Freddy Tresher. Author Klein worked with John Mckinley for the development of this series, who has contributed as an illustrator. One of the initially released books of the series is titled as ‘Tooth Trouble’. It was released by the Blue Sky publication in 2004. The primary characters of this book include Freddy Tresher and Mrs. Wushy. The start of the novel introduces Freddy Thresher as a newly arrived kid in the block. He is in first grade and knows that the world is a jungle and he had to work on his own to find the solution to his problems. At the beginning of the story, Freddy is shown as having a really huge problem in his life. In his whole class, he is the only student who has not yet lost even a single tooth. His class teacher of first grade, Mrs. Wushy has maintained a list called Big Tooth, which is signed by all those students who lose their teeth. Freddy Tresher too is highly determined to have his name in the list just like all the other students in his class. When the other students realize this fact about Freddy, they begin to call him and tease him with different names. A mean student named Sellars calls him a baby. Seeing his classmates getting meaner to him day by day, Freddy decides to get rid of a tooth in one or the other way. He thinks of indulging in fights with other students during recess so as get punched and lose his tooth. If that does not work out, Freddy Thresher intend to get into a bigger trouble with his mother, who is surely going to remove one of his teeth with a single punch. The story turns out to be a hilarious one as author Klein depicts the big problem in Freddy’s life in the 1st grade.

The next well known book written in the series by author Klein is entitled ‘The King of Show and Tell’. The Blue Sky Press once again released the book in the year 2004. Author Klein has mentioned the main characters in this story as Freddy Thresher and Robbie. This story opens by showing that Freddy Thresher has one more bigger problem in life. He feels that he does not anything cool that he could bring to the school for show-&-tell. He has a best friend in school with the name of Robbie. When Freddy comes to know that Robbie has brought an amazing artifact this week to share, a real head of an alligator, he becomes even more restless. He wonders how can he come with something cooler than Robbie’s artifact. And as a good news to him, he comes across something very exciting and unusual later in the day. But, the problem is that his mother should not come to know about it or else she will bring hell to him. Freddy hopes that he will become the king of show & tell if he becomes successful in bringing the artifact to school. In the end, Freddy Thresher plots a mind blowing plan with which he can get the artifact to school without his mother finding out about it. Once again author Klein has penned a light hearted and funny story about the problems in the lives of first grade students. It is filled with a lot of humor, which the readers highly appreciated and praised her for her efforts.
