Joyce and Jim Lavene are a writing couple who started writing way in 1999. The bestselling authors also double up as photojournalists. They have published more than 40 books up to date. In addition to publishing books, the couple has also published hundreds of magazines and newspapers articles. They are the publishers of a syndicated garden column featured on most North Carolina newspapers. Currently, they write four mystery series and write articles for a small newspaper in Stanly County, North Carolina. They have three children and five grandchildren. When they are not promoting their books or working on new book ideas, the couple can be found taking photos of funny looking guinea pigs or even congressmen who look potatoes, they spend their time having fun with their family, mostly their adorable grandchildren.The authors have penned some exciting crime book series including;

The missing pieces series features three middle aged witches who live in North Carolina, Wilmington. The witches decide to retire in Boca Raton Florida. Before they retire, they must give up their magic, recruit three witches and train them to take their places.
They must also hand over their spell books which has taken them four years to create. At the first glance, the task seems easy enough. But the events take an unexpected twist. Their spell book is stolen by their competitors who dont want to see them retire. They must accomplish their mission of training the three recruits with the limited resources they have at their disposal which results into some hilarious results.
The main character of this series is a third generation witch named Molly Adison. In the book, she is quoted saying that it comes a time in every witchs life when she has to retire. She goes on to add that she realized that her retirement was due when she had to zap dig her new car before her husband started asking questions and instead changed the color of her car from blue to purple! What made matters worse was that she was unable to change the car back to its original color!
The series is very interesting. It is filled with unexpected twists and turns which will leave you craving for more. The authors manage to keep the reader hooked until the end. You will never see whats coming. What seems an easy task at first glance turns out to be full of unexpected events.
The Renaissance Faire mystery introduces you to the exciting world of Dae O’Donnell, an extraordinary woman with uncanny ability of finding lost items. The story is plot of the story is set behind lost lives.
Dae ODonnell, the lead character of this series is the mayor of Duck, North Carolina. She is the person everyone in the city turns to incase they lose something. Dae needs takes only one minute to find anything. All she needs is one touch, and the missing pieces fall in place and find their way to her. This happens naturally. Weather she likes it or not.
Everything seems to be going on fine, the gods are smiling on Dae until Miss Mildred visits Dae with a request for Dae. To find her missing watch. This leads to an unexpected turn of events as Dae finds herself not only looking for a missing piece of jewelry, but also the gigantic task of proving that miss Mildred is not a cold blooded murder.
Dae has to use her physic powers to discover the real culprit. The person behind the murderer that Miss Mildred is accused of.
Like the other Lavernes crime mysteries, this one is as cozy, filled with eccentric and likable characters as they come. The series is well set in the vividity of a small town. You will find yourself automatically associating with the character since they are so likable and realistic.
The series also has a touch of romance between the lead character, Dae and an FBI agent known as Kevin Brickman. The combination of both small town ambiance and physic main character makes the series both interesting and unpredictable at the same time.
The Purple Detectives Series features the life of a young witch, Sunshine Merriweather, the owner and operator of purple detective agencies. Sunshine likes good food and colorful cloths.
As the book begins, we are introduced to the world of sunshine as she struggles to find the killers of her partners, John
. Her usually uneventful life is turned upside down after her partner is brutally murdered. Sunshine vows to stop at nothing until she finds the killers and revenges her partners death.
Aine, a bean sidhe has her eyes set only on one thing as she enters the doors of purple detective agency. Locating the only one man remaining in the ONeil family tree. Aine has been a sleep for over 200 years in a ruined Irish castle when she wakes up only to realize that the world has moved on without her.
Sunshine sees a powerful ally and a partner in the determined bean sidhe. But Aine is not interested in sunshines scheming plans. This changes once the witch agrees to help her locate ONeil.
Both women are not aware of the danger that follows them as an ancient assassin stalks their city, ready to make a kill. It will take more than the powers of a witch or those of a bean sidhe to stop the assassin. They will have to work together, combine their skills and talents so as to stop this determined killer.
The world of Sunshine Merriweather is intruding and full of suspense. The authors outdid themselves to come up with an amazing blend of characters and plot to ensure that you will read the series until the very end.
The characters portrayed in all the lavenes books are very realistic and vivid. You will find yourself automatically associating with them as they go through the process of solving the mysteries laid before them. The authors will slowly take your through the lives of the lead characters and force you to share their experiences both positive and negative. This will keep you flipping the pages, hoping against all odds that the villain will be caught and apprehended.
