Karin Kaufman
Author Karin Kaufman grew up devouring murder mysteries, particularly the cozy kind. Just give her a mystery, a comfy couch, her sweet rescue pup Dakota Grace by her side, and (preferably) a rainy day, and she is in heaven.
When she’s feeling whimsical, which is pretty much all the time, she writes kid’s books, having written the “Geraldine Woolkins” series, which are adventure stories for middle grade readers and read aloud families. It is her passion to entertain and delight kids through stories about peril, faith, and hope. All kinds of hope.
“The Witch Tree”, the first novel in the “Anna Denning” series, was a finalist for a Grace Award.
“The Witch Tree” is the first novel in the “Anna Denning Mystery” series and was released in the year 2011. A family tree filled with witches, and a genealogist that is determined to learn the truth.
All Anna Denning, genealogist, wants is to spend a quiet Christmas in Elk Park, Colorado. An opportunity to grieve over her husband’s death and recover what remains of her faith in God. However four days before Christmas, she finds a client’s body, and when she begins asking some questions that nobody wants answered, she is the next target of this killer.
She now has to draw on her wounded faith for the courage to enter into a world of witchcraft and Wicca, of neopagans and of winter solstice celebrations. Reminders of a past that she had buried a long time ago. Is this past going to come back to haunt her? Or is she going to find the inner strength to stop this killer?
Karin delivers an enjoyable novel with quick action and writing that is easy to follow, and the plot is just right. It is a captivating and engrossing mystery with characters that are humans making decisions while struggling with some real life challenges. Anna has got a gift for her witty comebacks, and the way she refuses to back down from a fight or be intimidated is incredible.
“Sparrow House” is the second novel in the “Anna Denning Mystery” series and was released in the year 2012. The owner of a mansion located in the Colorado mountains hires Anna Denning to research his family tree, it is Anna’s dream come true. A library filled with an undiscovered family history, old documents. What more could a genealogist want?
Excited by all the possibilities and fueled by a new love in her life, Anna, who is just as tenacious as ever, is undeterred by some rumors that a ghost is haunting the mansion. Until she finds the records that suggest that these rumors could be more than just idle talk.
These characters are scarily real and Karin’s descriptions of Colorado were rather fascinating. The novel makes you want to continue reading to learn the answers to all the questions surrounding this mystery.
“The Sacrifice” is the third novel in the “Anna Denning Mystery” series and was released in the year 2014. A decades old murder has got a stranglehold on the present.
It’s almost Halloween in Elk Park. A founding member of the Elk Valley Historical Society, who is a retired history professor that wanted to hire Anna to finish his secret research into the family trees of two of the other members, is discovered dead, having been the victim of a savage murder.
When the victim’s friend pleads with Anna to complete the work of the professor, she agrees. Her choice leads her right into a disturbing world of concealed identities, lies, and the occult.
With bravery and a heaping helping of stubborn resolve, while also facing some major changes in her personal life, she digs beneath the surface of the past in order to learn the dangerous secret behind some decades old murder.
“Death of a Madman” is the first novel in the “Juniper Grove Cozy Mystery” series and was released in the year 2017. In the tiny town of Juniper Grove, Rachel Stowe (a newcomer) has finally found the quiet life and good friends that she always craved. So when this stranger shows up in town and stirs up some painful memories about a baffling episode in the town’s past, she vows to put an end to his mischief.
However events take a rather nasty turn when she finds a body in her backyard and suspicion for this murder falls upon her widowed neighbor. Despite getting warned off the case by the town’s aloof yet handsome chief of police, she makes it her mission to clear her neighbor’s good name and track down the real killer. Can she crack this case before another corpse turns up?
“Death of a Scavenger” is the second novel in the “Juniper Grove Cozy Mystery” series and was released in the year 2017. More than just a few people in Juniper Grove want Maureen Nicholson dead, so when her dead body turns up during the town’s annual October scavenger hunt, there isn’t any shortage of motives or suspects. However when suspicion for this murder falls upon Holly, Rachel Stowe’s friend and baker extraordinaire, Rachel has to get to the bottom of this mystery.
Convinced that there is no romance in her future with the police chief, Rachel dives headfirst into this investigation, ignoring all of his disapproval and risking her own safety. However is she going to uncover the truth before the killer can strike again?
