Shea Macleod is a paranormal and contemporary romance, science fiction, post-apocalyptic, cozy mystery, and urban fantasy author. Macleod has said that ever since she could hold a pen in her hand she dreamed of becoming an author, something that she blames her mother for. After graduating from college, she spent more than six years in London before she came back to the United States. She now makes her home in Portland, Oregon in the leafy suburbs set on the hills just outside town. She spends much of her time watching reruns of old series such as “Ancient Aliens,” reading books about dragons, and drinking strong coffee. Even though Shea only started writing in 2012, she has become quite the prolific author that by 2020, she had more than fifty novels in fourteen different series and contributions to several collections.
Macleod first got interested in writing as a child, when her mother would take her and her sister to the library every weekend to pick up new books for story time and general reading. Since that time, she has always been writing especially of the mayhem and adventure inspired by all the reading she did. She published “Kissed by Darkness” her first novel in 2011 and has never looked back since. Nonetheless, she had written several other books before then, though these were never published and she is glad they never saw the light of day. While many authors considered themselves authors when they got their first novel published, Shea thought of herself as an author when she started pursuing writing seriously as a career in 2011. “Kissed by Darkness” is technically her third work as she had written two manuscripts earlier in her career which she says were over the top though wonderfully melodramatic. She was curious about what would happen if there was an invasion of vampires in the town. How would her life change if she were the one to save everyone by killing the invaders.
It took Shea Macleod a while to find her stride and she spent two and a half years to become successful. In the early 2000s, she was obsessed with becoming a traditionally published author. It was a time when indie writers were not a thing and hence when she was done with her first manuscript she began querying. She queried for two and a half years and was getting frustrated as publishers preferred working with established authors and newbies and midlist authors were getting hardly any attention. At one point, she considered going with an eBook publisher since as a new author she stood a better chance with these non-conventional publishers than with a print publisher. Moreover, she would get more royalties or so she reasoned, until she heard the horror stories and had the chance to read the contracts being offered. In 2011, she found JA Konrath’s blog and especially liked the indie posts going back as far as 2009. It was quite the eye-opener and she took several weeks to read everything she could find on indie publishing. Shea then took her manuscript for “Kissed by Darkness,” polished it, and made it as professional as she could be before publishing in June 2012. With the novel getting so much love from audiences, she was encouraged and has been writing ever since. Apart from JA Konrath, her biggest and original inspiration is Agatha Christie.
Shéa MacLeod’s “Dragon Warrior” is set in the year 2012 where human killing and fire breathing dragons rule the roost in what is a fulfillment of centuries-old Maya prophecies. They had once upon a time been thought to be just mythological creatures that would rise and devastate the Earth. Now that they are here, things have gone to the dogs and the military who have been known for discipline are no longer the moral and ethical people they once were. The Marines who had made a name as the epitome of “Serve and Protect” have defaulted to the survival of the fittest and are now engaged in the plunder, pillage, and rape of a population and occasional kill of a dragon much like the Vikings had done a few centuries past. A quarter of a century later, much of the surviving humanity has been wiped out by their actions. There have been rumors that the soldiers have been stealing dead bodies, women, and resources. Rumors abroad also assert that there are Dragon Warriors in the land. The Dragon Warriors are armed with heavy swords made of diamonds which are said to be the only weapons strong and sharp enough to pierce the tough armor of the Marines. Rain the lead protagonist and one of the survivors of the devastation is puzzled to receive news of sinister and disturbing things done to otherwise helpless people. But then she finds some startling information while looking to find and protect a loved one and she is at a loss at what to do.
“Dragon’s Angel” by Shea Macleod is an addictive and mesmerizing post-apocalyptic novel. Mai Le has been nicknamed an Angel for several reasons. She is an expert with a blade and has been devastating when called upon to use it. On the other hand, she is a very beautiful woman and her attributes and skills come in handy in the post-apocalyptic wasteland that she calls home. However, she cannot let anyone especially her brother know of her skills with the blade, as he is very likely to burst a vein and even kill her for learning it. He has been nicknamed the dragon though he does not know of it given how disconnected he is from the populace. According to the rumors flying across the country, Angel’s brother is responsible for the death of three dragons that he killed single-handedly. For a man that is not the Dragon Lord, this is quite the feat. But over the horizon are more dangerous enemies than the dragons and it is only by working together that the two siblings can defeat them and survive.
“Dragon Goddess” by Shea Macleod is the thrilling story of Audrey Harrison. He remembers being on the verge of death on the penultimate days of the Dragon Wars. She should not remember anything since she is dead but she had been reborn as a very different person from the woman she was before. She can now control the dragons, feel their emotions, and even their thoughts. Then again, she has more important things to do including getting away from the people that had transformed her into what she is. Mauri Rain is intent on saving her soul mate and is going to do everything in her power to save him from the revolutionary organization led by an evil scientist who had been misusing the survivors of the Dragon Wars. But her concern for Micah and what she does with it could cause harm to others that she also cares about. As the two women struggle to survive in the world that has become a wasteland, they may find that they have a lot in common.
