Dog Collar Crime
Lucie and Frankie are the outliers of their crime families and are ready to stay out of the life while keeping their families close. Being children of crime bosses, they don’t want anything to do with their father’s past. The two have been in love for a long but seem to break up with each other every other week.
Out of work after getting laid off from her job at the bank, Lucie is left with one option of doing the one thing she has tried to avoid for a long, moving home to her mob family after looking for another job for almost six months. Lucie longs for the day she’ll break free from her family chains and start her own life. She hates how people look at her just because she is the daughter of a criminal.
Her father is currently in prison, and Lucie has spent most of her life separating herself from the her father’s activities.
This single move takes her back to the arms of Frankie Falcone, her ex, who always leaves her helpless. Frankie becomes her top supporter when she converts her temporary dog-walking gig into a job-making dog accessory. She makes dog jackets and collars for a living, and her mother and boyfriend encourage her to keep going.
This shows that despite many struggles and stumbling, with a bit of encouragement, love, and determination, anything is possible if you have passion for it. It’s so amazing how, even though she was born in a mob family, Lucie doesn’t let that define her as she wants to make it on her own.
When a 15-carat diamond shows up in her stash of artificial gems, she uses them to make one of the dog accessories, and things start getting crazy. Her business is booming, and more clients are coming. As life begins to look like a walk in the park, three of her clients are dog jacked while walking them.
Lucie is thrown against a parked car while the dog gets taken from her. She tries chasing the thieves, but they get into a van and take off. She decides to call the police, but she receives any Mob boss’s daughter could get a response.
They inform her of the dog napping ring that has been reported in the area. The following day, Lucie experiences the same thing as the previous one, and another two dogs are taken away from her, and this time she is pushed down and gets injured. Even with the help of Frankie, the authorities start investigating Lucie, and it appears that there is someone ready to shut down her life and her second chance at love.
Does the dog napping have anything to do with her family, or is it something off the radar? Lucie starts to wonder whether she’ll ever be able to escape when she finds out that a diamond in her used is connected to a dognapping. Did Lucie bite more than she could chew?
The chemistry between the characters was great, and it’s refreshing to watch as things unfold, getting a little heated. Adrienne did a fantastic job of balancing romance and the mystery of the novel and knew how much to go into the romantic scenes to maintain the story’s tone.
The plot is a mystery of finding out the person targeting Lucie’s dogs and why. The relationship between her and Frankie plays a significant part in the story. There is plenty of humor, the chemistry between the characters, and twists to keep the reader guessing.
The story’s climax will leave the reader wondering what will happen to the character’s relationships instead of whether they’ll survive.
The characters are funny, well-rounded, and believable. Lucie’s desire to be something apart from a mafia daughter is relatable. Dog Collar Crime is a mystery story with compelling characters and some touch of humor.
Lucie is a resilient and feisty lady working hard to reach her dream and pay her bills. At first, she felt that there was no need to ask for help, but she won’t also let the dog napper get away. Frankie is ready to help her figure out the person behind all this. Can he help in solving the mystery? Joey has plenty of rough edges, but he has more than meets the eye.
Can Lucie and Frankie end up together when she wants out of the life of mob activities, and he does not?
