Nick Russell is a New York Times bestselling author of suspense, thriller, and mystery novels. He hails from the United States and is particularly famous for writing the Big Lake mystery series, the John Lee Quarrels mystery series, and the Dog’s Run series. Nick’s books are widely popular for their rich cast of characters, engaging storylines, and wonderful settings. Before trying his luck in the field of writing, Nick used to publish weekly and daily newspapers in Oregon, Arizona, and Washington. When he got married to his wife Terry, she encouraged him to explore the whole of America. Agreeing to her suggestion, Nick bought a Recreational Vehicle and set out to explore the different back roads of America along with his loving wife. The two spent around 18 years living like nomads and writing about their different experiences and explorations.
Nick maintained a travel journal called Gypsy Journal RV in which he captured numerous exciting things he came across while traveling in his RV. He even presented travel seminars at various RV rallies throughout the country. As of today, Nick and his wife live a settled life on the Intercoastal Waterway in Florida. They spend a part of the year living in their home and spend a few months traveling and exploring different regions. Author Nick made his debut in the field of novel writing in 2011 with the novel called Big Lake, which is also the first book of his successful and widely popular Big Lake series. So far, he has penned and published over 28 novels in his career. And all of them have received great reviews and comments from the critics as well as fellow writers.
Nick claims he had started writing Big Lake in 1998. Before that, he was mainly involved in writing nonfiction work. So, he did not have much confidence in himself in moving ahead with his first work fiction. As a result, it took him several years to finish the writing part of the book. He claims that it would not have been possible without the constant encouragement from his wife and close friends. He is extremely grateful to all of them for keeping him motivated throughout. When Nick decided to use the e-book technology to publish his first novel, no one was more surprised and happy with its success than himself. His experience in publishing newspaper materials and other stuff proved beneficial in the marketing of Big Lake. Nick’s fair base of readership allowed his debut book to have a good start and go on to become a great success.
Nowadays, author Nick uses social medial platforms like Twitter and Facebook as well to promote his books. Nick has never liked the format of traditional publishing. So, he never approached a literary agent in that regard. The worldwide success of Big Lake forced him to attempt a sequel novel. Nick felt that there was a lot to tell about the characters and settings he introduced in his first book and so, he came up with multiple sequel novels in the subsequent years. The authors who have always inspired him include Michael McGarrity, Lee Child, J.A. Jance, C.J. Box, Stephen Hunter, etc. Nick looks forward to writing many more exciting books in the years to come and entertain his fans like he has been doing all these years.
The John Lee Quarrels series written by author Nick Russell began in 2016. Nick has mentioned the central character in each of the books of this series as John Lee Quarrels. He is depicted as the Deputy Sheriff of the Somerton County. Other essential characters created by Nick for the series include Flag Newton, Leona Darling, Baby Bubba, Dixie Landrum, Maddy Westfall, etc. The debut book of this series is entitled ‘Stillborn Armadillos’. It was released in 2016 by the Amazon Digital publication. The book opens by showing that John Lee’s life has turned into a complicated one due to various factors. His estranged wife keeps visiting his wife with announcements and spends sleepovers as per her wish. Then there is the oversexed sister of his wife, who keeps tempting him into having sex with her.
John Lee faces a hard time from his grandparents as well, one of whom grows pot in his backyard and the other has a hard obsession for Elvis Presley. To make matters worse, he finds himself caught amidst a fight for power between the Chief Deputy and the Sheriff. Later, John Lee gets involved in the investigation of a triple murder case when a construction crew discovers three skeletons from a digging site. In following the trail of a deadly killer, John Lee suspects that he might have died years ago. But, when an assassin starts attacking deputies in his department, he realizes that the killer might be alive and he doesn’t want him to get to the bottom of the mysterious murders’ truth. The readers tend to get hooked to this book right from the beginning and remain intrigued until the very end.
The second installment of this mystery/thriller series is called ‘The Gecko in the Corner’. It was also published by Amazon Digital Services in 2017. Initially, it is depicted that the father whom John Lee never knew arrives at his door one night. He is all beaten up and in pretty bad shape. John Lee tries to inquire what happened to him, to which he gives a vague reason. John Lee suspects that there is more to this story than what he is being told. A couple of days later, his father disappears mysteriously. Soon after, trouble comes knocking at John Lee’s door again. Several thugs from another town visit his home, vandalize things, and cause a lot of destruction. Then, a mysterious caller claims that John Lee has a valuable thing that is his property and threatens him of dire consequences if he does not return it. And while all this going on, John Lee is still required to deal with the complications of his messed up life and his family members. The involvement FBI makes it clear that John Lee is deeply involved in the troubles of his father. A lot more intriguing and strange things happen before the story’s dramatic conclusion is reached.
